About Us

Operating out of Raleigh, North Carolina, The Stretch is the work of two brothers. The Commish writes the questions, while mattyj513 handles the coding and all technical aspects of operating the site. The Commish is a proud UNC Tar Heel alumni, with a diverse lifelong love for sports of all types. He not only appeared on, but was the victor on Sports Jeopardy. He earned sponsored entry into the World Series of Poker, where he managed to bluff his way into the last day of competition. Professionally he was the chief editor of a golf magazine for many years, and went on to write for multiple national sports media outlets, covering a variety of sports, both professional and collegiate. He also still plays and coaches a variety of sports to this day. His passion and wealth of information can now be enjoyed by all via the meticulously handcrafted questions he writes here at The Stretch. mattyj513 does not have as many notable accomplishments in the wide world of sports. He can boast of having won a team handball tournament in highschool, the trophy for which sits prominently on his mantle. In addition to his brief tenure as champion, as a boy he went golfing one time and was invited to and appeared in an instructional golf video for children at a USGA rated public municipal golf course for club pro Mike Hebron. He went on to focus on more technical pursuits and is an active contributor to multiple open source projects. He has accrued hundreds of thousands of unique downloads for his solo endeavors, while the larger projects he has worked on and contributed code to have downloads in the millions. The site itself has been custom built from the ground up, with a primary focus of providing top quality, entirely human created sports trivia content that is challenging, engaging and readily accessible on any device with an internet browser. Privacy friendly, there are no ads, no email is required for registration (only for payment), and the only tracking is of user stats for leaderboard and profile display. Profiles track a variety of stats, including accuracy by sport category, so you can see where you excel and where you don't. There are also dozens of unlockable achievements, with more being added regularly, with custom badges for your profile should you prove up to the challenge.
